This article explains how to import and export wallet labels, like account names and notes, using the BIP-329 standard in the BitBoxApp.

Important notes

  • Privacy: The export file contains sensitive metadata. It includes technical details like your Extended Public Keys (xpubs) and transaction IDs (hashes) for all accounts and transactions with custom names or notes. Treat this file confidentially and store it securely.
  • Backup strategy: Add the regular export of your labels to your backup routine to prevent losing this organizational data.
  • Interoperability: The standard format lets you transfer your labels to any other wallet that supports BIP-329.

Exporting BIP-329 labels

To export labels from the BitBoxApp, please follow these steps:

  1. Connect and unlock your BitBox02. (You can skip this step if the 'Remember wallet' option is enabled for your accounts).
  2. In the BitBoxApp, go to Settings and make sure you are on the General page.
  3. Scroll down the General page.
  4. Click the button labeled Export notes.
  5. Your operating system's standard file-saving dialog will open. Choose a desired location and file name, then click Save.

The exported file contains the information needed to restore your account names and transaction notes. Save this file securely or transfer it to a compatible wallet.

  3. Scroll down the General page.
  4. Click the button labeled Import notes.
  5. Your operating system's file-opening dialog will appear. Navigate to the saved file containing the notes, select it, and click Open.

Your transaction notes and account names are now restored and visible in the BitBoxApp.
