Brave’s built‑in Shields can block the BitBoxBridge connection, causing MyEtherWallet (MEW) to fail to detect your BitBox02 hardware wallet. To fix this, follow our guide:

Prerequisites

  • Your BitBox02 must be set up and paired with the BitBoxApp on your computer.
  • BitBoxBridge must be downloaded, installed, and running in the background. To verify or install:
    • Download the BitBoxBridge for your operating system from the official BitBox download page.
    • Confirm it’s running by visiting http://127.0.0.1:8178/ in your browser—if successful, you’ll see a small JSON‑style info page.
    • Here you find a more in detail guide: MyEtherWallet Troubleshooting

Step 1: Disable Shields for MyEtherWallet

  1. Navigate to https://www.myetherwallet.com in Brave.
  2. Click the Lion (Shields) icon on the right side of the address bar.
  3. In the drop‑down panel, click the Shields UP for this site slider to turn it DOWN. This disables all site‑specific protections—such as ad and tracker blocking—only for MEW.
  4. Confirm that the panel now reads Shields DOWN for this site.

Step 2: Refresh the Page

  1. Press F5 or click the reload button in your browser toolbar. MEW will now detect your BitBox02 as expected.
  2. If detection still fails, try opening a new Brave window in Private mode (which uses the same Shields settings) and repeat the steps above.

Additional troubleshooting tips

  • Close the BitBoxApp before accessing MEW to avoid conflicts—only one client may connect at a time.
  • Update your BitBox02 firmware via the BitBoxApp to ensure compatibility with the latest MEW release.
