Update your BitBox02 firmware through the BitBoxApp. You do not need to find, download, or install a separate firmware file. First update the BitBoxApp; after you connect and unlock your BitBox02, the app will show whether compatible new firmware is available for your device.

A BitBoxApp update and a BitBox02 firmware update are separate. Installing a new BitBoxApp version does not update the device firmware automatically.

Before you update the firmware

• Install the latest stable BitBoxApp from the official BitBoxApp download page. If necessary, follow Update the BitBoxApp.
• Use a stable connection and keep the BitBox02 connected until the BitBoxApp says the firmware update has finished.
• You do not need to create a new wallet backup for a normal firmware update. The update does not use the microSD backup; keep the card safe and do not format, overwrite, or share it.

If a firmware update is available, the notification appears after you connect and unlock your BitBox02. If no update is offered, do not download firmware from another website or follow an update link from an email, message, letter, or QR code.

Update the BitBox02 firmware

1. Open the latest BitBoxApp, connect your BitBox02, and unlock it with the device password.
2. Look at Settings in the left sidebar. A red notification dot appears when a firmware update is available.

3. Open Settings, then select Manage device. The tab also shows the red notification dot.

4. Scroll to Device information and select New upgrade available beside the current firmware version.

5. Review the firmware update information in the BitBoxApp and select Upgrade.

6. Read the confirmation shown on your BitBox02 and use the touch sensors to confirm that you want to update the firmware.

7. Select Upgrade firmware now in the BitBoxApp.

8. Wait while the BitBoxApp and BitBox02 display the update progress. Do not close the BitBoxApp or disconnect the device.

9. Wait for the BitBox02 to restart.
10. Unlock the BitBox02 with its device password. If you use an optional passphrase, enter and verify it only on the BitBox02 to open the intended wallet.
11. In the BitBoxApp, return to Settings → Manage device → Device information and check the displayed firmware version.

A normal completed firmware update does not move cryptocurrency or change your wallet. It also does not require you to recreate the existing wallet backup.

If no firmware update is offered

1. Confirm that you installed the latest stable BitBoxApp.
2. Reconnect and unlock the BitBox02.
3. Open Settings → Manage device → Device information and check the displayed firmware version.

If no update appears, your BitBox02 may already have the newest compatible firmware available through that BitBoxApp version. You can compare release information in the BitBoxApp releases and BitBox02 firmware releases.

If you still expect an update, contact BitBox Support through the official contact form. Include only your operating system, BitBoxApp version, displayed firmware version, BitBox02 model or edition, and a screenshot of the update area if useful. Never include recovery words, a wallet backup, private keys, passwords, passphrases, PINs, or authentication codes.

If the update does not complete

If the connection was interrupted, the update stopped, the BitBox02 remains on the Bootloader screen, or the same update prompt returns, do not reset the device, restore a wallet, install firmware from another source, or follow third-party recovery instructions.

When the BitBoxApp no longer shows that a firmware installation is in progress, unplug the BitBox02 and reconnect it. Unlock the device and check whether the firmware update can now complete.

If reconnecting the BitBox02 does not resolve the issue, record what is shown on the device and in the BitBoxApp, then contact BitBox Support through the official contact form. Include the non-sensitive diagnostic details listed above, what happened after reconnecting the BitBox02, and the exact stage at which the update stopped.

Review or independently verify the firmware
